| Short Term Technical Assistance to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) EXPERT PROFILE Expert in Conflict analysis and research Qualifications and skills The expert must have a minimum Masters level Degree or equivalent in the Social Sciences, Advanced Research Methods, Conflict and Peace building Studies, Law or Sociology. General professional experience This is a Category II expert position. The requirement includes a minimum of 7 years general experience related to development, elaboration and implementation of a conflict mapping strategy at a national level, with particular focus on the organisation, management and highly realistic outcomes. Expertise in interactive research methods such as PRA techniques is essential. Computer literacy and an excellent knowledge of English language both written and spoken are required, as well as very good written (reporting) and oral communications skills. The Expert must have demonstrated capacities as a researcher, trainer or facilitator. He/she should be culturally competent to work with people of diversities and should be willing to travel to remote regions of the country outside the assignment station in the Capital City, Monrovia. He/She should also have the cultural competence and ability to consult and interact extensively with local communities nation-wide. Specific professional experience The Expert must have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of conflict research, conflict management, conflict resolution and/or peace building. His/Her expertise should be focused on dealing with complex research themes bordering on conflict identification, analysis and intervention mechanism as a proactive peace building measure. The Expert must have a functional knowledge of the conflict situation of Liberia, its history and the inter-relationships with the West African sub-region. Previous work in the sub-region generally and Mano River Basin is a decisive advantage. LOCATION AND DURATION Starting Date and Duration of the assignment The services should start immediately after signature of the contract, and preferably no later than 25th February 2008 (first working day in Liberia). The assignment is for duration of Four (4) man-months, reporting included. Location of assignment The assignment will primarily be carried out in Monrovia, Liberia at the TRC Head Offices in Sinkor on 9th Street and Tubman Boulevard but the Expert will be required to travel and undertake missions in counties for verification, familiarity and to hold community forums that the project methodology may deem relevant. A car hire costs approximately USD 75/day including driver, but no fuel. | |
