Dear ACCA members,
I hope my email finds you well and safe in these most unique times. Today is the deadline by 1.00 GMT to cast the vote.
It has been my great pleasure to be a member of ACCA fraternity since 2001. I have interacted with many of you and wish to meet more of you.. I am now seeking your support for my election to the ACCA Council.
I am standing for 2020 ACCA Global Council election this year.
I'm one of the 49 candidates vying for the 16 available spots on Council.
You must have received an email dated October 08, 2020 from CES <takepart@cesvotes.com> with the subject "ACCA - AGM and Council Elections 2020" containing voting instructions to vote at www.accaglobal.com/vote
My election statement and video can be found on www.accaglobal.com/vote. You are encouraged to read the election statements and watch the videos of all candidates and then you cast your votes. Voting is now open and closes 12 November 2020 (13.00 GMT). Today. Don't wait till late you may miss the opportunity to make your voice count.
As many of you know, I trained with PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC) in Karachi, Pakistan and chose London for starting up my accountancy practice many years ago. Along the way, obtained Authorized Legal Activities Individual (ALAI) status by ACCA and were authorized to carry on the reserved legal activity of Probate in the UK.
Midway through my practising career., I branched out to take up CFO-ship at Astons, an Award-winning Global Immigration and Relocation provider. Through this role, I am able to operate globally. My recurring affinity with journalistic thoughts got me to accept a position as the correspondent of Kommersant, a Russian business periodical.
ACCA has continually served as a beacon of knowledge – both traditional and contemporary -- for me throughout my career. I feel that I should give back to ACCA by serving on its prestigious Council and add as much value as I can.
ACCA and its global impact
Both regulated immigration and social mobility present unprecedented opportunities to the countries and companies alike. As a truly global talent developer, ACCA ought to do more in the way of providing guidance to its great many members and students in Asia who would like to emigrate to the UK, Europe, Australia, the USA and Canada. Upon my election as the Council member, I shall strongly advocate for necessary measures in this direction. For instance, new innovator and start-up visas in the UK lay out an enabling framework for suitable and sound overseas members of ACCA.
As I write these lines, COVID-19 is changing the world around us. We, as knowledge workers, have greater than ever responsibility to adapt and evolve. Technology-led transformation within geo-political and socio-economic ecosystems is tangibly obvious. I will leverage my place on the Council to bolster the need for accessible digital skills for students and members, in the curriculum and CPD, respectively.
ACCA as a UK Regulatory Awarding Body
As the Council member, I will draw ACCA's attention to the issues that small practitioners are facing in COVID-hit and post-Brexit economy – needless to say, that I can personally relate to these issues. I can commit to be the voice for small practitioners and Probate at ACCA and to put forward futuristic suggestions on their behalf. As for an example, a single ACCA license to practice may well be able to cover multiple areas of practice.
Another matter that finds its way into many discussions is the need for practical guidance in regards to Private Family Offices and Private Wealth Management.
The governments are combatting the ill-effects of COVID-19 in almost every country that ACCA members exist. Let's join hands with ACCA to be part of the solutions in these unprecedented times.
Looking forward for your vote to change the course of ACCA. Deadline is today.
Please also consider voting for Omer Zaheer Meer, a very dynamic ACCA member.
B Regards
Sarmad
